Mailbox Assignments

All Tulane students living in university housing are assigned mailboxes by the Mail Operations Department. New students arriving in the fall receive notification of their box assignments at the beginning of August, sent through the U.S. Postal Service to their permanent address of record. Anyone not receiving a box assignment by August 12th should contact Mail Operations by emailing mailbox@tulane.edu.

Your Tulane Address & Shipping instructions

Newly arriving resident students will receive written communication the first week of August with information on shipping  items to their Tulane address. This mailing includes a unique, four-digit mail slot code. Also included will be instructions on how and where to claim items shipped to you during the Move In period. To ensure the most reliable service, your unique code must appear on any item sent to you regardless of delivery method. Room numbers or Residence Hall Names should never appear anywhere on your letters or boxes. Residence housing does not accept deliveries, hold packages, or deliver items to resident students. The addressing format that best ensures timely and efficient delivery of your material regardless of shipping method is:

Your Full Name # - (your unique 4 digit mail slot number)

TULANE UNIVERSITY
31 MCALISTER DR
NEW ORLEANS LA 70118-5645

The last three lines are all capitalized. No alpha characters should appear with the four-digit code number, i.e.,"Box", "Slot", "MP", "MB","MR", or "PO". Boldly marking the sides of a box with your mailbox code improves handling time.

Mailbox Keys

You will be able to pick up your mailbox key from Mail Operations in Bruff Commons, please have a picture ID available.

Be careful with your mailbox key. You must access your mailbox with your key. Mail and package notices will not be handed over  the counter.  If you experience any problems with your key  or mailbox lock, come to the mail package pickup counter for assistance. Replacements for lost mailbox keys are $20 per incident. Keys must be returned at the end of the school year or a $50 lock replacement fee will be charged.

Getting Your Mail and Packages

Uptown Mail Operations is located on the first floor of Bruff Commons.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for university holidays. Extended service hours will be offered during the first few weeks of school.

Your personal mailbox is where you will receive USPS mail, Tulane campus mail, and package pickup notices. Pickup notices are placed in your box for oversized items, all packages from carriers and couriers, all accountable items, and selected nonaccountable items (i.e., credit cards).

Mail Operations' package pickup counter is where you bring your pickup notices and claim your items (except during move-in). We receive a substantial quantity of packages and other logged items each morning. These items must be logged in, labeled, shelved and notices distributed to student boxes the same day of receipt. Faster package pickup service will be experienced after 1 p.m. Items must be picked up by the addressee and your Tulane ID must be presented with the pickup notice. Items not picked up in a timely manner may be returned to sender. Although mail staff makes an extra effort to notify students when perishable items are received, refrigeration is not available and such items are handled on a convenience basis only. Tulane and this department cannot assure timely receipt of this type of items.
